Viajar a Eritrea

In Eritrea, a country in northeast Africa with neighbouring Sudan to the east and Ethiopia to the north, time seems to stand still. To travel to Eritrea is to travel to an outdated but fascinating world.Isolated from the rest of the world for decades, Eritrea is a pleasant, little known destination.Asmara, the capital, prides itself on being “la piccola Roma”. Its cafés, cinemas and administrative buildings dating from the 1940s, and its calm and friendly atmosphere, have made it a World Heritage Site. The city is the starting point for any trip around the country. To the east, by the Red Sea, we can find the decadent and historic city of Massawa and the Rashaid nomad people. To the north, there is Keren and its famous weekly camel market and, further afield, peoples of great anthropological interest such as the Nara and Kunama. To complete your experience, you can explore the south of the capital through the landscapes of the Sycamore Valley (a type of tree characteristic of the country), the Metera Mountains (ideal for trekking), the archaeological site of Qohaito (a must on the route taken by the mythical Queen of Sheba) or a visit to the Saho, a people characteristic of this area.Eritrea is well worth visiting on its own, but it is also an ideal complement to a trip to Ethiopia or Sudan.
